In 2022, 51.6% of White Medicare decedents used the Medicare
Hospice Benefit. 38.1% of Asian American Medicare decedents, and

To help hospice professionals address this disparity in end-of-life care, NHPCO:

  • Created a Diversity Advisory Council – a group of hospice and healthcare professionals and experts who will work to increase access to hospice and palliative care services provide information, guidance and technical support to NHPCO and its members related to serving diverse populations with the goal of increasing access to hospice and palliative care service for those who are underserved.
  • Updated Inclusion and Access Toolbox Hospice Outreach Guides for: African Americans, Latinos, Chinese Americans, etc.
  • Provides consumer resources for diverse populations
  • Increased diversity-focused topics within NHPCO’s End-of-Life (EOL) online education
  • Provides in-person trainings for healthcare professionals at NHPCO and other national conferences
